the european union. while many of the larger founding countries have their own trade commissions, chambers of commerce and other business and trade organizations, most member nations of the eu have little to no economic representation outside of their embassies in washington, dc.
on may 1, 2004, ten new member states joined the existing fifteen states of the european union creating a combined economy of nearly $11 trillion, an economy similar in size to that of the us. now, in 2009 with 27 member states, the european union has a population of approximately 455 million, and their combined economy is a considerably larger trading block than the united states.
the european business council was created in 2004 to facilitate and support trade and investment and promote cultural activities between southern california and the european union member and aspiring member states.
we provide a host of services to both companies in southern california and the european union member states including financing, import/export assistance, facilitating better business contacts, and providing offices and leasing spaces to european union member nation trade commissions, business chambers, and private organizations.
